Las Piedras 

Madre de Dios, Peru​

 

 

The Tamandua Jungle Station is located on the Las Piedras River of the Madre de Dios region of Peru. This area of the Amazon is just west of the Bolivian border and is not far from the region's capital, Puerto Maldonado. Puerto Maldonado sits where the Tambopata River and Madre de Dios River meet. They are tributaries of the Amazon River which is the second largest river in the world. 

 

This area has a tropical climate, meaning it is hot and humid for the entire year. It has an average annual temperature of 79 degrees F (26 C). The rainy season lasts from October to April with an annual rainfall exceeding 3.3ft (1,000 millimeters).

 

This area of the Amazon is completely undeveloped and is the home to over 50 million different species of wild life, including different types of trees, flowers, mushrooms, amphibians, reptiles, insects, butterflies, birds, big cats, monkeys, tapirs, and so much more.
